The second hand car part industry is always growing. Used auto parts are more affordable than brand new ones, and they are often just as good. So it is no wonder that there is such a huge demand for used auto components.
If you happen to have an old vehicle that you no longer use, you may be in the position to make some money from it. How? By parting the car out. This involves completely dismantling the vehicle and selling the parts second hand. It isn’t as easy as simply selling the vehicle to an auto dismantlers, but if you have all the correct tools, you stand to get a bit more money. Here is how:
Disconnect the Ducts and Wires
The first step is to remove the bonnet. You will also need to detach the battery. After that, you will want to disconnect all the pipes and wires from the engine. You need a sharp cutting tool in order to complete this task. Get some containers with which you will be able to use to store the fluids. Drain the fuel, hydraulic fluids, transmission fluids and the coolant, and store them.
Remove the Engine
You will need to have an engine jack for this part. Connect the engine to it, and this will make it possible to lift the engine out. The mounts need to be fully unbolted. You will be able to sell the engine as long as it runs. If it is a junk engine, there may be individual parts within it that can be sold.
Separate Other Spare Parts
You can make a lot of money by selling parts on the private market. The radiator is a good example, as is the alternator. If you need to sell fast, you have the option of selling to a salvage yard. However, that will not be as lucrative.
Remove the Tyres
Take the tyres off and you will be able to sell them to an auto shop. There is also the option of reusing them if they are in good condition. The next step is to use a jack to lift the whole automobile off the ground. This will allow you to remove more parts. Remove the shoes, drums, lines, and brake pads. Sell them online or in a scrap yard.
Take the Car to Pieces
This will require a lot of elbow grease and hard work as well. Get your trusty crowbar, screwdriver, hammer and other such tools. Remove the doors, the roof, the fenders, and sell them to a junkyard. If they are in bad condition you can sell them as scrap metal.
Remove the Interior
The dashboard, floorboards, carpets and seats all need to be taken out. These components can all be sold to a salvage yard, or online via the private market if they are in good enough condition. Any steel parts can be sold as scrap metal.
If you don’t have the tools, skills and expertise to complete any of this, you would actually be wise to simply sell the whole junk vehicle to a car dismantlers in Brisbane and get the stuff done professionally.
